Welcome to the St. Louis Region

Relocating to St. Louis: an AAPI guide

Moving to St. Louis for a job, a residency, a graduate program, or a new chapter with your family? AGI is the community that welcomes you before you arrive — with neighborhood tips, employer intros, and a Welcome Ambassador matched to your background.

Neighborhoods to know

St. Louis is a network of walkable neighborhoods and family-friendly suburbs. Newcomer favorites include the Central West End and the Grove for city living; Clayton, University City, and Ballwin for schools and quiet streets; Chesterfield and Creve Coeur for larger homes and easy commutes to biotech and finance corridors; and South Grand and Olive Boulevard for the region's deepest concentration of Asian restaurants, markets, and services.

Schools and universities

Families rate Ladue, Clayton, Kirkwood, Parkway, Rockwood, and Lindbergh school districts highly. For higher education, Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), Saint Louis University (SLU), UMSL, Webster, and Maryville anchor the region's student and postdoc communities — many of whom find their first AAPI friend group through AGI events and cultural spaces.

Employers hiring AAPI talent

St. Louis employers actively recruiting Asian professionals include BJC HealthCare, SSM Health, Mercy, Washington University School of Medicine, Boeing, Emerson, Bayer, Edward Jones, Centene, Anheuser-Busch, World Wide Technology, Enterprise Mobility, Wells Fargo Advisors, and a growing biotech corridor around 39 North. Browse open roles on the AGI Career Hub.

Healthcare and family services

BJC, SSM, and Mercy operate large multilingual hospital systems. For newcomers, the International Institute of St. Louis and AGI partners help with translation, immigration, and settlement resources. AGI's Welcome Ambassadors can personally introduce you to a doctor, dentist, or pediatrician who speaks your language.

Community and cultural hubs

St. Louis has vibrant Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Nepali, Pakistani, and Southeast Asian communities, plus dozens of cultural nonprofits, temples, mosques, and churches. Explore AGI's cultural Spaces to connect with your community before you land — from Lunar New Year celebrations to Diwali dinners and Taste of Asia festivals.

Getting around

St. Louis is a car-first city with a small MetroLink light-rail spine connecting the airport, downtown, and Clayton. Most professionals lease or buy a car within their first month. Rideshare, grocery delivery, and remote work all work well for a soft landing while you get your bearings.
